DAVAO CITY- A suspected leader of the communist New People’s Army (NPA ) was killed during an intensified military operation at Sitio Mahanon, Maitom, Tandag City over the weekend.

The Philippine Army’s 36th Infantry Battalion identified the slain NPA leader as Noel Tumarlas Alacre who was found dead in the area. Alacre, also known as Megan/Hardy/Heinrich/Vernie/Jerson was the leader of Platoon 2, Weakened Guerilla Front 30 (WGF30), North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee (NEMRC).

Records showed that Alacre has several warrants of arrest for criminal cases to include 12 counts of murder, eight counts of attempted murder, and 3 counts of frustrated murder.

He was also facing two counts of slight illegal detention, one count of kidnapping and serious illegal detention, arson, and abduction.

Prior to the military operation, the group of Alacre allegedly burned three motorcycles and fired several gunshots along Barangay Maitom road, Tandag City, Surigao del Sur this month.

This prompted the Mahanon Civilian Active Auxiliary (CAA) detachment of 36th IB to  conduct a strike patrol to trail the arsonists which led them along the Tandag river line. The following day, troops on the continuous pursuit of the communist terrorist group then recovered an armed and lifeless body along the river bank of Sitio Maitom, Mahanon, Tandag City, Surigao del Sur on September 16.

The troops were able to recover in Alacre’s possession an R4A3, steel and plastic rifle magazines , live ammunition, rifle grenades, cellular phones, and personal items.

Brigadier General George L Banzon, the brigade commander of the 901st Infantry Brigade commended his troop for their relentless operation which resulted in the death of Alacre and the impending destruction of the WGF 30 as well.
