Nabunturan LGU evacuates 500 individuals due to heavy rainfall
DAVAO CITY – About 500 individuals in the town of Nabunturan, Davao de Oro were evacuated due to heavy rains since last Friday (Jan. 14).

Nabunturan Mayor Chelita Amatong in a statement Sunday evening (Jan. 16) said that the individuals were from five barangays that were prone to landslides and flood.

"Anaa na kitay kapin 500 ka mga indibidwal na kasamtangang anaa sa atong mga evacuation centers o designated temporary shelters (We already have around 500 individuals that are now in the evacuation centers or designated temporary shelters)," she said.

Amatong said the needs and comfort of the evacuees were taken care of by their Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO).

She also said the municipal government is continuing its coordination with their 28 barangays to know the real-time situation in different areas.

Amatong said she already advised the Barangay Captains to implement pre-emptive evacuation while the life of their constituents is not yet at risk.

She said, the local government is prepared to implement force evacuation if the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) will recommend it.

"Busa akong kinasingkasing na ginahangyo ang mga Nabunturanon na kung gikinahanglan na mu-evacuate mu tuman kita, kay para pud ni sa atong kaluwasan. Ug kung dili importante ang tuyo, dili na mulakaw o mubiyahe pa para malilay kita sa disgrasya ( I am appealing to Nabunturanons to immediately evacuate if it is really needed and follow orders. This for our safety and avoid any danger), " she said.

Amatong said MDRRMO personnel are continuously monitoring the weather situation in their area and their rescue units are on standby in case of emergency.
