Ex-President Duterte leads turnover of P8-M renovated Boystown Davao
DAVAO CITY-Former President Rodrigo Duterte led the turnover of the P8 million worth of renovated and refurbished facilities of Boystown Davao on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 10) at Maa, Davao City.

The restored and improved facilities of Boystown Davao is a project of  Davao Light and Power Company Inc. and Aboitiz Foundation,Inc as their support to the vision and and cause of Boystown Davao, in its desire to help underprivileged boys in the streets by providing them shelter and education.

The renovated and refurbished facilities include a building containing the office, conference room, library, computer room, and chapel, as well as two dormitories, and another building containing the kitchen, mess hall, infirmary, and baking room. Also renovated are the reception and working areas of the staff, while the infirmary was also provided with medical supplies and equipment.

Duterte in his message has quoted a saying , “we expect to pass to this World at once. Any good therefore that I can do to a fellow creature or any kindness that I can show let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it or I shall not pass this way again.”

Sabin Aboitiz, the President and Chief Executive Officer of Aboitiz Equity Ventures meanwhile, emphasized that the noble mission of their company is to rescue underprivileged boys from the streets in the city, adding they are proud of the work they have done together to provide these boys with decent shelter and proper education.

“We have always believed in this vision and cause, for it is the right of every Filipino to have a comfortable home and a conducive place for learning. We sincerely hope that the renovations at Boystown will go a long way in transforming the environment, upbringing, and education of these young Davaoeños as they grow up to become men of dignity and productive members of the community,” Aboitiz said.

Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte thanked the Aboitiz Foundation Inc. for the support they have provided to the welfare of the boys inside the facility.

Baste, whose message was read by lawyer Marlisa Gallo, head of the City Social Welfare and Development Office said the newly improved facility will bring meaningful change and progress to the operation of the institution.

“As we continue transforming the lives of our underprivileged boys at the compound, may we find more avenues to effectively bring the best out of everyone and eventually turn that into a better agent of our society,” she said.

The city remains committed to protecting the rights and upholding the welfare of all Davaoeños particularly belonging to those vulnerable sectors, the mayor said. 

The facilities aim to provide a comfortable home and a conducive place for learning and transformation for the 50 boys who are being prepared to later become productive members of the community.

Boystown caters to poor, neglected and abandoned boys between 12 to 17 years old, physically and mentally healthy, willing to abide by the rules and regulations of the institution that are coming from Region 11 and other neighboring regions in Mindanao.

Davao Light and Aboitiz Foundation are long time supporters of Boystown Davao.

The event was also graced by other key officials of Aboitiz Company and Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go.
