DCWD announces full operation of P13 billion bulk water project
DAVAO CITY- The Davao City Water District (DCWD) on Tuesday has announced the full operation of the more than P13 billion bulk water project since December last year.

DCWD in partnership with the Apo Agua Infrastructura, Inc., started distributing bulk water to the areas in the third district  including Calinan, Tugbok, Riverside, and Dumoy. Likewise, the Cabantian, and Panacan water supply systems (WSS) in the second district  also started their operation on December 1, 2023.

Jovana Cresta Duhaylungsod, spokesperson of DCWD, said in her appearance during the 1st Regular Session of the 20th City Council Tuesday (Jan. 9) that following Apo Agua’s completion of the critical infrastructures needed, she said, the water delivered to the DCWD is safe and reliable.

“Since December until right now, we are fine-tuning both of our systems, and part of that fine-tuning is the acceptance of the bulk water and the subsequent distribution to our customers. In our distribution, we made sure that the water has passed the Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water, which is the benchmark for water safety in the country,” she said.

Duhaylungsod also said that since the start of the bulk water supply, they have seen a significant improvement in the availability of water and pressure, especially in areas experiencing intermittent water supply.

According to her, the improvement in the water supply allowed their office to cease the water delivery activities through water tanks in 30 areas in the city because there is now 24/7 water supply availability.

“Last January 1, 2024, we were already accepting new service applications in more areas, specifically in 16 barangays and more locations in downtown proper,” Duhaylungsod said.

Meanwhile, the DCWD is simultaneously conducting operational adjustments for distribution to expand the reach of the bulk water supply and benefit more customers.

These adjustments are being executed to address isolated cases of low water pressure to no water.
