The President's EO allows voluntary face mask wearing in open spaces and non-crowded outdoor areas with good ventilation.
However, the order emphasized that not fully vaccinated individuals, senior citizens, and immunocompromised individuals are highly encouraged to wear their masks and physical distancing will be observed at all times.
The President also emphasized in his order that face masks must still be worn in indoor private or public establishments, including public transport by land, air, sea, and in an outdoor setting, where physical distancing cannot be maintained.
COVID-19 Task Force spokesman Dr. Michelle Schlosser, underscored the importance of educating people about a sense of accountability and responsibility with the release of the order.
She said should Davaoeños failed to protect themselves outside by not wearing face masks, then they might be bringing the virus with them.
“There is a higher risk of infecting their children, who are not yet eligible for vaccination, senior parents who belong to the vulnerable sector, or immunocompromised siblings and relatives at home,” Schlosser said in a report from the City Information Office.
It is up to the people to voluntarily wear face masks and protect themselves, but she appeals they should be responsible since they are accountable for their action.
“At the end of the day, you are not the only ones affected, your loved ones are affected, and the community where you live,” she said.
The city through safety and security clusters will still continue to monitor face mask wearing indoors and in public and private establishments.
Although, she has observed in the past days that Davaoeños continue to wear face masks in open spaces and non-crowded areas.
Schlosser continue to called on the public to get themselves vaccinated and take booster shots for their added protection in the light of more relaxed COVID-19 protocols.
