Davao del Norte placed under state of calamity
DAVAO CITY-Widespread flooding submerged several towns in Davao del Norte and left two residents dead prompting the provincial government to declare a state of calamity on Thursday.

According to the office of the provincial governor, the declaration came following the huge damage in agriculture and infrastructure caused by the widespread flooding in six local government units due to bad weather across the Davao region this week.

The province reported that at least P50 million worth of infrastructure and agriculture were damaged. At the same time, six towns were affected by the recent flooding.

The affected areas include Asuncion, Kapalong, Santo Tomas, New Corella, Carmen, and Tagum City.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) estimated the infrastructure damage at P 25,355,000, agriculture at P25, 097,401.18, covering the six affected towns.

The declaration was made to mobilize necessary resources and assist affected communities.

Governor Edwin Jubahib who heads the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) said they are doing everything to help those affected by the disaster.

“We are working closely with local government units and to provide aid and support to those in need,” he said.

Juhabib reiterated his call for the residents to take necessary precautions and follow the advice of local authorities.

He assures the residents that the provincial government would monitor the situation closely and provide updates as necessary.
