DAVAO CITY– Five remnants of the dismantled New People’s Army (NPA) units previously operating in the Area of Operations (AOR) of the Philippine Army’s 1001st Infantry Brigade (IB) recently surrendered to the authorities.

1001st IB reported that four of them were former members of the Dismantled Guerrilla Front 33 (DGF 33) operating in the boundaries of Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte, and Agusan del Sur.

The other is a former member of the Dismantled Pulang Bagani Command 5 (DPBC 5) operating in the boundaries of Davao de Oro and Davao Oriental who surrendered to the 60th Infantry Battalion based in Camp Morgia, Dona Andrea, Asuncion, Davao del Norte on April 24.

The surrenderers also yielded five high-powered firearms including; 1 AR-15 rifle, one Bushmaster rifle, two Baby Armalites, and one M14 rifle.

The surrender happened due to the extensive efforts of the 60th IB to look after the remnants of the NPA units through the direction and guidance of the 1001st IB commander Brigadier General Ronnie B Babac.

Meanwhile, in Monkayo, Davao de Oro, another 4 NPA members voluntarily surrendered to the 25th Infantry Battalion on a separate occasion.

They also surrender four Improvised Explosive Devices (or commonly known as Homemade Landmines) and other war materiel.

Babac, in a statement lauded the troops' significant accomplishment in facilitating the surrender of the remnants of the NPAs.

These accomplishments, according to Babac speak well of their commitment and dedication to duty worthy of emulation.

The 1001st Brigade along with its operationally controlled units is relentless in its efforts to look after the remnants of the NPA despite the declaration of its AOR as Insurgency-Free.

Davao de Oro was declared insurgency-free in June 2022 while Davao del Norte on June 13 of the same year.
