Schlosser made the announcement after the city recorded a low turnout of vaccines during the first day of the National Vaccination Drive (NVD) on Feb. 10.
Schlosser in an interview over Davao City Disaster Radio said that compared to the parts one and two of the national vaccination drive, the part three launching has a low outcome.
She said only a total of 5,662 individuals showed up to get themselves vaccinated on the first day of the NVD. Of the number, 618 received first doses while 2,844 got second jabs, and 2,200 availed of the booster shots.
She said the Bayanihan Bakunahan 3 will be extended until February 18 to secure and hasten the rollout of booster doses as she sought the help of the media to let the public know the importance of getting a booster dose.
She also said that the city is fortunate to have achieved almost 100 percent of its target herd immunity and that they can now just focus on the boosters.
“We are now fast-tracking the booster rollout because we don't know when the virus will evolve or when new variants will emerge and we can't afford to have another surge. At least when new variants come, Dabawenyos and our communities are fully boostered,” Sclosser further said.
Schlosser emphasizes that boosters will give people 25-fold protection against the severity of COVID-19 symptoms. She urged fully-dosed Dabawenyos, including pregnant women on their second and third trimesters and lactating mothers to avail of the boosters as well.
On Monday (Feb. 14), the city roll out the pilot vaccination for the pediatric population five to 11 years old at the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC), Davao Doctors Hospital (DDH), DMSF Hospital, and the Seamen’s Hospital.
