The transfer was conducted using a C-295 aircraft operated by TOW-EM, with personnel from EastMinCom and the Bureau of Immigration (BI) ensuring a secure, orderly, and efficient movement from Eastern Mindanao to the National Capital Region. Upon arrival, the individuals were formally turned over to BI Warden Facility security personnel and escorted for transfer to the Bureau of Immigration Warden Facility (BIWF) in Muntinlupa.
The 20 foreign nationals were apprehended on April 20 during a joint operation by EastMinCom and BI for alleged violations of the Philippine Immigration Act of 1940, particularly provisions under Section 37(a)(9) in relation to Section 45(e), involving unauthorized engagement in economic activities. Reports further indicate links to illegal mining operations, which fall under violations of Republic Act No. 7942 or the Philippine Mining Act of 1995. Authorities have intensified operations in recent months against unregulated mining activities in parts of Mindanao, citing environmental degradation, loss of government revenue, and security concerns.
EastMinCom emphasized that the mission highlights the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ capability for rapid air mobility and its vital role in supporting law enforcement agencies. The Command reiterated its commitment to strengthening inter-agency coordination, particularly with the BI and other government partners, to ensure the effective enforcement of national laws, protection of natural resources, and preservation of public order.
The Command likewise assures the public of its continued vigilance and readiness to support lawful operations in line with national security objectives and the welfare of the Filipino people.
