Veteran  Davao Eagles chess team  to face defending champion Iloilo in 2022 PCAP Tourney Southern Division Finals
DAVAO CITY---The veteran-laden Davao City Eagles chess team will have their hands full in the 2022 Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) Southern division finals.
The Eagles will face the defending champion Iloilo in the finals in the PCAP Southern division.

After beating the Toledo Trojans in the semifinals, the Eagles got the slot to compete in the finals.

The team dubbed Davao Chess Wizards joined the PCAP Premier Cup tournament last year as a guest team, where they were able to reach the quarterfinals round.

This year, the team is focused and prepared to win the PCAP crown with a formidable line-up of veteran chess players who carried the city's flag in local, national, and international chess tournaments.

Leading the team is World chess champion for the differently-abled Sander Severino, veteran chess coach Roel Abelgas, former national chess youth champion National Master (NM) Jonathan Tan, DPWH engineer Aglipay Oberio, Panabo City, Davao del Norte NM Henry Lopez, Philippine chess team coach for the differently-abled James Infiesto, Allan Diez, Alexander Lupian, Arnel Iton, Anthony Mosqueda, Cris Yap, Atty. Jong Guevarra, Nap Recosoca, Mary Segara, and former DLSU college chess varsity member Joy Acedo.

With a veteran and strong roster, the Eagles are predicted to barge the PCAP playoffs again this year and go for the crown if luck permits. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
