The Philippine Sports Commission tapped Luka Gabrilo, credited for giving Israel's first gold medal in the European Championships through Anastasia Gorbenko in the 200-meter individual medley, as the swimming coach of Sanchez.
Sanchez is one of the top medal prospects of the Philippines in Paris since she previously won two medals in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics as a member of the swimming team in Canada.
After her Olympic wins, Sanchez, after careful thought, decided to leave the Canadian team and transfer to the Philippines, where she currently has a one-year residency before she can compete in an international swimming contest as a member of the Philippine swimming team.
The PSC is going all-out for the training regimen of Sanchez, as they also provide her with her physiotherapist, nutritionist, and sports psychologist.
Sanchez was a member of the Canadian team that competed in the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.
She shared a silver medal with Maggie Mac Neil, Rebecca Smith, and Penny Oleksiak on the Canadian 4x100 m freestyle relay team.
In the 4x100 m medley relay heats, she swam the freestyle leg, which helped the Canadian team win the heat, and she was awarded a bronze medal when the finals team came in third.
To save energy for the 4x200 m freestyle relay, where the Canadian team ultimately finished fourth, Sanchez competed
individually in the heats of the 100 m freestyle, recording a new personal best and progressing to the semi-finals.(Romeo Braceros Jr.)
