Gawilan is part of the Philippine delegation in the 11th ASEAN Para Games in Indonesia from July 23-30.
In a Facebook post, Gawilan is hopeful the event will proceed as planned since he already missed joining an international swimming competition.
"Sana wag na ulit ma postponed nakaka miss na mag laro," Gawilan said.
Despite the failure to get a medal in the Paralympic Games, Gawilan earlier said he is still happy to participate in the biggest sporting event for persons with disabilities in the world.
Gawilan who was born with no legs and an incomplete arm due to an attempted abortion and poor pre-natal healthcare said he did his best but his competitors are just fast for him for this year.
“I did all the strategies, but it’s really elusive. they still have speed,” Gawilan said in a Facebook post.
Before competing in the Paralympics, Gawilan, born with no legs and an incomplete arm due to an attempted abortion and poor pre-natal healthcare, won a bronze medal in the World Para Swimming World Series in Berlin, Germany on June 17-20, 2021.
Gawilan won third place in the finals of the men´s 400m Freestyle heats with a time of 5:03:74.
