The Philippine Sports Commission under the Marcos administration is set to give a P1 million reward to Filipino-Japanese Karateka Junna Tsukii for winning a gold medal in the tough 2022 World Games in Birmingham, United States.
The World Games and Championships are considered the second biggest international sports events after the Olympics, wherein some of the top sports countries in the world will vie for the coveted gold medal in a particular sports event.
According to reports, Tsukii prides herself on being the first athlete who will receive a financial reward in the young Marcos administration.
The Philippine Sports Commission officer-in-charge, lawyer Guillermo Iroy said Tsukii's financial reward would come from the coffers of the Philippine Gaming Corporation.
“Yes, she (Tsukii) will receive a P1 million incentive for that gold in the World Games," Iroy said.
