On July 19-24, Arca finished second in the Under-14 Open National Youth & Schools Chess Championship grand finals at Robinson’s-Malolos, Bulacan.
At the end of the round-robin format tournament, played on Tornelo with a time control of 15 minutes and a 10-second increment, Arca scored nine points courtesy of seven wins and four draws to finish in second place in the 7-round Swiss tournament.
With the win, Arca gets a slot to compete in the Eastern Asia Youth Chess Championships in Bali, Indonesia, on October 13–22.
Recently, Arca has been picked as the newest Dasmarinas Cavite Chess team member.
Dasmarinas chess team head Cong Pidi Barzaga picked Arca as the newest team member, composed of some of the top young chess players in the Philippines.
As the team's newest member, Dasmarinas has become a much tougher team to beat.
Arca decided to accept the offer from Barzaga to be part of his team since it would greatly help in his young chess career.
National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) chairman/president Rep. Prospero “Butch” Arreza Pichay Jr. has fully supported the tournament.
The tourney was organized by Bayanihan Chess Club, headed by its co-founding chairman Dr. Jose "Joe" Carreon Balinas, and Engr. Antonio "Tony" Carreon Balinas, in cooperation with Ms. China Aurelio and Ms. Mimi Casas of Open Kitchen, sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines. The GM Balinas family also supports it.
