DAVAO CITY—A promising lady chess player from Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental, who won four medals in elementary chess in the recent Palarong Pambansa 2023 in Marikina City was feted with awards by the elected CDO officials.

Lila Alyssa Willkomm Serina and other Palaro winners from CDO were honored by Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy, Vice Mayor Jocelyn Rodriguez, members of the 20th City Council, and the entire City Hall bureaucracy during Monday morning’s flag-raising program hosted by the City Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office.

Aside from the medals, the Palaro winners also received some cash rewards from the city of Golden Friendship.

Serina made headlines earlier in the Palaro after winning team gold in blitz, silver for standard individual, silver for silver blitz individual, and silver for the standard team.

Serina is the daughter of lawyer Vincent Cromwell and Dra. Sheila Jean Willkomm-Serina.

In a Facebook post, Cromwell said he is pleased

and proud of the accomplishments of his angel.

"Under the 2023 Palarong Pambansa chess tournament setup, a chess player may only win a maximum of four medals.

Our little chess master brought home 4: 1 🥇 & 3 🥈. The only elementary chess player with 4. We are very proud of you, Lila Alyssa Serina! Cromwell said.

Cromwell also said that Region 10 is the only participating region where all chess players got at least a medal.

The R10 chess players are David Ancheta, Cassey Tabamo, Sara Dalagan, LJ Getubig, Sebastian Marbas, Quarl Vera Cruz, Janelle Tan, and Lila Alyssa Willkomm Serina.
