Go said in a message.
Through Go’s initiative, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) conducted an orientation on Wednesday, Thursday, 26, for qualified displaced workers, introducing them to the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program. This program aims to offer employment assistance in the coming period.
During the distribution activity held at the South Poblacion gym, Go’s Malasakit Team, joined by Mayor Donato Chan represented by his executive assistant Marian Chan and Vice Mayor Paulo Magallanes, distributed snacks, vitamins, shirts, basketballs, and volleyballs to 497 beneficiaries. There were also select recipients of watch, bags, shoes, and a mobile phone.
To better support Filipino workers impacted by crises and provide for those in rural areas facing a scarcity of employment opportunities, Go introduced Senate Bill No. 420. This proposed legislation aims to establish the Rural Employment Assistance Program (REAP) if enacted into law, which may provide temporary jobs to qualified individuals from low-income rural families, who are prepared to engage in unskilled manual labor for a certain duration.
To further ease the financial burden on Filipino families, Go also co-authored and co-sponsored SBN 2534, which aims to raise the daily minimum wage by P100 nationwide.
As the Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, Go further highlighted the crucial role of Malasakit Centers in providing immediate healthcare support through medical assistance programs to ease their financial burden.
Institutionalized in 2019 under Republic Act No. 11463, which Go principally authored and sponsored, the Malasakit Centers Act has established 166 centers nationwide, benefiting approximately 12 million underprivileged Filipinos by streamlining access to medical assistance from various government agencies.
In Misamis Oriental, Malasakit Centers are located at the Misamis Oriental General Hospital in Medina and Northern Mindanao Medical Center and J.R. Borja General Hospital both in Cagayan de Oro City.
