Thousands Join Call for Former Pres. Duterte's Return

Davao City – Despite heavy rains, thousands of supporters of former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte flocked to the “Limang Buwan, Isang Sigaw: Free Duterte Concert” at the Coastal Road Bazaar to express their call for his return to the Philippines.

The event, organized five months after Duterte’s detention at the International Criminal Court (ICC), was both a show of solidarity and a cultural celebration. It drew not only longtime allies but also young supporters, families, and local groups who waved banners and wore shirts bearing the slogan “Free Duterte.”

Among those present were Senator Bong Go, Davao City Acting Vice Mayor Rigo Duterte II, 2nd District Representative Omar Duterte, and PPP Party-list nominee Bryan Lim.

The concert featured performances by Giselle Sanchez, Aila Santos & R2K, Wency Cornejo, Lazy Fat, Silent Sanctuary, Isla Riddim, Joey Ayala, and other artists. The event remained peaceful throughout.

In his message, Acting Vice Mayor Rigo Duterte said they were gathered for a common reason, “one that goes beyond differences in religion, culture, and beliefs—and that is our love for Tatay Digong.”

He recalled that his grandfather always thought of nothing but the welfare of the Filipino people and the development and security of the nation.

He also criticized what he described as the “callous actions” of the national government, saying these “reveal how dictatorial, corrupt, and elitist this current administration is.”

Rigo urged those behind the arrest to admit that “it was a blunder, a wrong political move that negatively boomeranged on all of you.” He further called on them to “listen as we speak, and watch as we move with the people.”

He assured supporters that they will not retaliate with “the same unjustified cruelness or dead political tradition,” but will instead remain true to their duty as public servants.

Rep. Omar Duterte, for his part, urged his grandfather's supporters to remain steadfast and never tire of fighting for what is right and just.

“Let us continue my grandfather, Pres. Rodrigo Duterte's, legacy by being united in our efforts to help our country become better for future generations,” he said.

The congressman also revealed that he and his brother will follow their father, Rep. Paolo Duterte, to The Hague next week to visit their grandfather. Vice President Sara Duterte and Veronica Duterte are also currently there visiting the former president.

The concert marked one of the largest public shows of support for Duterte since his detention, highlighting how his influence and following remain strong among Filipinos, particularly in Mindanao. Organizers vowed that more peaceful gatherings and activities will follow until their call for Duterte’s freedom is heard.
