The fire, which broke out on the evening of October 2, reached the fourth alarm, razed more than 100 houses, and displaced hundreds of residents. Authorities said the cause of the blaze is still under investigation by the Bureau of Fire Protection.
Rep. Duterte, accompanied by his staff, went to the affected area on Sunday, October 5 to oversee the ongoing relief operations and directly extend assistance to the victims.
During the visit, Rep. Duterte distributed food packs, relief goods, and Personal Clothing and Bedding (PCB) kits to affected households. Each PCB kit contained:
• 2 blankets
• 2 towels
• 3 brassieres
• 6 pairs of panties
• 6 pairs of adult briefs
• Additional clothing sets for children
A total of 179 house owners, 87 sharers, six renters, and six boarders benefited from the relief distribution.
To ensure children could return to school as soon as possible, Duterte’s team also provided school supply kits tailored to each child’s grade level. Each kit included an envelope with a folder, three notebooks, one pad of paper, three ballpens, and three pencils.
Healing Through Joy for Young Survivors
Understanding the emotional toll disasters take on children, Rep. Duterte’s office organized an entertainment and healing program for around 200 young survivors.
The event featured a magician and clown show, fun games, toy giveaways, and kiddie meals. A special Jollibee appearance delighted the children, helping lift spirits and ease trauma after losing their homes.
“We want to ease the pain and trauma that the children and their families are experiencing after the fire. This is also to show them that the community stands with them as they recover and rebuild their lives," Rep. Duterte said.
Parents expressed heartfelt thanks to Rep. Duterte’s office, saying the activity not only provided material help but also gave their children a much-needed moment of happiness despite their loss.
Swift Response From Day One
Just hours after the fire broke out, Rep. Duterte’s office had already sent mineral water, biscuits, bananas, fresh milk, wheelchairs, and pillows to evacuation centers.
Since October 3, his team has been providing daily meal packs and hot porridge with boiled eggs to affected residents — an effort that will continue until at least October 8.
Rep. Duterte also assured families that his office is coordinating with barangay officials and social welfare agencies to ensure sustained support for those rebuilding their lives.
The ongoing relief and recovery efforts underscore Rep. Paolo Duterte’s hands-on leadership and compassion, showing Dabawenyos that help comes swiftly and sincerely when disaster strikes.
