MNLF denies protecting Sen. Bato dela Rosa amid speculations
The Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) has denied having any formal relationship with Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa amid speculations that the lawmaker may be seeking refuge with an armed group in Mindanao.

In a statement dated October 30, 2026, the MNLF Information Committee clarified that there is no verified evidence linking dela Rosa to the organization as a member or confirming that the group is providing him protection.

The clarification came amid reports suggesting that dela Rosa could be staying with a powerful armed group in Mindanao, with speculation pointing to the MNLF.

The group noted that dela Rosa’s previous statements about the MNLF were primarily related to the peace process and conflict resolution. As a student in Marawi, he reportedly witnessed clashes between government forces and the MNLF. He has also supported programs for former combatants and their children.

Dela Rosa has likewise advocated for the faster integration of qualified members of the MNLF and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) into the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

The MNLF statement also cited the relationship between its founder, Nur Misuari, and former President Rodrigo Duterte, whom dela Rosa considers his political patron. However, it stressed that these personal and political connections do not establish an organizational alliance with the senator.

The group further pointed out that the MNLF is fragmented, making it uncertain whether any faction associated with Misuari would be willing or able to shelter dela Rosa from arrest.

The MNLF maintained that claims it is protecting the senator remain unverified and should not be treated as established facts.
