LTO, HPG urged to monitor traffic near KOJC, airport
DAVAO CITY- The City Council has requested the Land Transportation Office and Highway Patrol Group to ensure the smooth flow of traffic along Carlos P. Garcia Highway near the vicinity of Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) compound and Bangoy International Airport.

Earlier on August 25, a portion of the Carlos P. Garcia Highway in this city was closed to traffic. The barricade along the said vicinity hampered the flow of vehicles passing through and going to the airport.

During the 33rd Regular session of the 20th Davao City Council, First District Councilor Tek Ocampo in a resolution he authored cited the 1987 Philippine Constitution which states that no person shall be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law, nor shall any person be denied the equal protection of the laws.

The resolution says that unwarranted closure will affect the businesses and  movement of people living near the area.

Ocampo said that parking or putting objects along national highways that obstruct the smooth flow of traffic is against traffic rules as provided by law.

Ocampo emphasized that under the Local Government Code of 1991, the local government units have the authority to regulate local traffic and ensure public safety while at the same time grants LGUs the power to regulate the use of roads within their jurisdiction.

The City Council mandates the LTO and HPG to maintain free flow of traffic at the Carlos P. Garcia Highways in areas near the airport and KOJC compound to ensure public safety.

The city council will furnish a copy of the approved resolution to LTO, City Transport and Traffic Management Office, City Mayor’s Office, and all other concerned agencies for their information and guidance.

Councilor Tek Ocampo
