First batch of seniors end work under Davao City special program
The Davao City Government has successfully rolled out its pioneering batch of the Special Employment Program for Senior Citizens, a first of its kind in the city, proving that age is not a barrier to productivity and meaningful contribution to society.

Lilibeth Pantinople, head of the Public Employment Service Office (PESO), told the City Information Office (CIO) that the program was more than employment. It is a recognition of their value, hard work and dedication.

“Happy kaayo mi kay nahuman na gyud ang atoang first batch sa atung special employment for the senior citizens. Karon, ang atong culmination program sailaha and I’m sure happy pod kaayo sailaha sa suporta na gihatag ni mayor para sa ilaha  she said.

Councilor Pamela Librado-Morata, Chair of the Committee on Civil, Political and Human Rights, Labor and Employment emphasized that the program demonstrates the continuing capability of senior citizens to contribute significantly in the society.

“The glory of the elderly is their insights, their knowledge and their wisdom. Tinoud kay dili lang inyong edad, apil na usab ang inyong mga kasinatian sa kinabuhi ang maong rason nga kami gasalig sa inyong kapasidad og kaalam. The same wisdom and insight is what makes our senior citizens valuable members of the society ,” she added.

Pantinople added that they are also currently working to expand partnerships with more companies to sustain and grow the initiative, ensuring that more seniors and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) can benefit in the future.

Over the past three months, 78 senior citizens were employed in 18 McDonald’s branches and 21 stores under the Jollibee Group, including Greenwich, Chowking, Burger King, and Jollibee.

Eva Ceniza, who worked at McDonald’s Buhangin, also expressed her gratitude for the opportunity given to them.

“Nagpasalamat ko sa City Government of Davao sa oportunidad nga ilahang gihatag kanamo mga senior citizens. Dako kaayo ang akoang pasalamat sa City Mayor’s Office nga nagpakita nga ang mga senior citizen, dili kalimtan apan hatagan og higayon nga mag trabaho, mag pa bilin aktibo og magpabilin nga produktibo sa atong katilingban,” she said.
