Engr. Gilbert V. Iglesias, Engineer III, Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering Division (ABED) of CAgrO, said that their office has already prepared farm machinery and equipment to assist the agricultural sector during the prolonged dry conditions.
"The City Agriculturist’s Office is ready, we already have many machines such as water pumps, power sprayers, and we also have two water tankers ready at the Malagos nursery now. Ready for the upcoming extreme El Niño,” he told Madayaw Davao over Davao City Disaster Radio on October 14, 2026.
Iglesias said that farmers associations and cooperatives can request water pumps and power sprayers for a specified period, allowing more farming communities to benefit from the equipment.
“We have two tractors that we use for plowing, the purpose of our tractor is to pull or push our water tanker. That was the main purpose for El Niño, to bring water to areas that have very little water,” he added.
He also advised operators to regularly conduct preventive maintenance such as lubricating the moving parts, checking oil levels and proper storage after use to maximize the lifespan and performance of machines.
Meanwhile, CAgrO also continues to encourage farmers in having a rain water catchment which allows them to collect and store rainwater for agricultural use.
As of October 2026, there are already 700 units of rainwater catchment in the upland areas of Davao. OrderCalendars
“They used it to water their gardens, and actually, their income doubled because they also harvested fish from the fish ponds and had irrigation for their crops,” Iglesias said.
Interested farmers’ associations and cooperatives can request the equipment by submitting a letter of intent, a copy of board resolutions, certificate of registration, documents with attached pictures showing where they put the equipment and submit to their nearest CAgrO district office for evaluation and processing.
