Davao City Council condemns Vice Ganda for mocking former President Duterte
The members of the 21st Davao City Council unanimously condemned the statement of comedian Jose Mari Viceral also known as Vice Ganda for mocking former President Rodrigo Duterte, which according to them disrespecting the former leader.
In an approved resolution on Tuesday during the Council’s regular session, Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang, who authored the resolution insisted that while freedom of expression is a protected constitutional right, such right must be exercised with responsibility, avoiding statements or acts that demean individuals, promote disrespect, or encourage divisiveness.
Vice Ganda, in a recent public performance made satirical and derogatory remarks mocking Duterte, which Davaoenos perceived as an insult not only to the former Chief Executive but also to the people of Davao who hold him in high esteem.
Dayanghirang emphasized that the city government of Davao upholds the values of respect, courtesy, and the preservation of dignity towards all individuals, particularly public officials who have served the nation with distinction.
“Former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, a proud Davaoeño brought honor and recognition to the city of Davao through his decades of service as mayor and as the 16th President of the Republic of the Philippines,” Dayanghirang said.
He said the Sangguniang Panlungsod finds it proper to take a formal stand in protecting the dignity of its people and leaders against acts that offend the cultural values and moral sensibilities of the community.
