The trade fair, held on July 5 to July 7 at the Abreeza Ayala Mall, was participated in by several entrepreneurs who showcased their different cacao-based products.
Representatives from other partner organizations, including the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Trade and Industry, the Department of Tourism, the Davao City Tourism Operations Office and other stakeholders, were also present in the event.
Mayor Sebastian Duterte, in a message read by City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO) Officer-in-Charge Jennifer Romero, said the recognition of the cacao products of the city, being the Cacao Capital of the Philippines, is a significant feat for the community, and also shows that in the field of agribusiness, Davao City delivers beyond what meets the eye.
Duterte also extended his gratitude to the prime movers of the cacao industry especially the DCCIDC and CAgrO for the pushing for its growth.
During the three-day fair, several activities were lined-up which included competitions on cacao centrepieces. There was also the chocolate art wherein artists used chocolate as their medium, and the “tsikwate x kape” mixology competition wherein baristas compete to create a hot drink using both coffee and chocolate.
Hao cacao; Coco dolce; Coscao chocolate; Auro chocolate; Cacao de Biao; MS3 choco; Cacao de davao; Sikap Co; Cacao City; Wit's sweets & savouries;Rosario’s delicacies; Malagos Chocolates; Nutra rich; and Sikwate! were among the cacao-based businesses who set up booths in the venue.
The City Government of Davao through CAgrO continues with its efforts to support the cacao farmers through giving out free fertilizers, farming seminars and workshops, and technical support.
The CAgrO continues to urge cacao farmers to maintain their cacao farms and to not cut off their cacao trees as there is a high demand of cacao in the world market. Davao City cacao farmers are encouraged to reach out to the CAgrO and their district offices and avail of their services. CIO
