Army captures 7 high-powered firearms in Caraga
Troops of the 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division captured seven high-powered firearms believed to be from the communist New People's Army (NPA) during separate focused military operations on Saturday, July 18, 2026.

This accomplishment is part of the military's sustained security operations to preserve the gains of the recently declared Stable Internal Peace and Security (SIPS) in Caraga Region.

Combined troops of the 3rd Special Forces Battalion under the 401st Infantry Brigade, 4ID and the 67th Infantry Battalion, under the 10th Infantry Division, successfully captured six  high-powered firearms in Brgy. Kolambugan, Sibagat, Agusan del Sur, following intelligence information provided by former rebels and sustained military operations in the area.

Among the seized firearms were two  M16 rifles, two  AK-47 rifles, M1 Garand rifle, and a homemade shotgun.

Meanwhile, on the same day, another team from the 3SFBn together with troops of the 36IB and the PNP captured an  M16 rifle, two  anti-personnel IEDs, magazines and ammunition in an operation conducted in Brgy. Maitum, Tandag City, Surigao del Sur.

Brigadier General Benjamin L. Leander, Commander of the 401st Brigade, emphasized that the capture of firearms demonstrates the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations and the growing support of local communities in the government's peace and security campaign.

"This accomplishment reflects the strong collaboration between our troops and peace-loving communities in Agusan del Sur and Surigao del Sur. Every firearm captured denies the CTG the means to sow violence and threaten the safety of our people," he added.

Meanwhile, Major General Marion T. Angcao, Commander of 4ID, commended the joint troops for the successful operation, saying these accomplishments are significant steps toward the sustainment of peace and development in the region.

"The capture of these firearms is a testament to the relentless efforts of our soldiers and the invaluable cooperation of our stakeholders and communities," he said.

Angcao said, "although we had dismantled all CTG units and declared the entire Caraga under the SIPS status, our mission does not end there. We will sustain our focused military operations and together, we will safeguard the gains of SIPS for the benefit of every Caraganon, and prevent any resurgence of the CTG. "
