2 men carrying P2.1-M illegal cigarettes nabbed
DAVAO CITY- A Hyundai van containing 4,250 reams of smuggled cigarettes valued at P2.125 million were intercepted by the police and military in a border control point at Barangay Eden, Toril District in this city at dawn on Monday ( Oct. 31), Task Force Davao (TFD) reported.

The Barangay Eden border control points in Barangays Eden and Malagos were established last year to check all individuals and motor vehicles by-passing the main fixed checkpoint located in the highway boundaries.

TF Davao identified the arrested suspects Hyundai driver, Kinsar Asdur, 36 and Alhapids Isnang, 24. Both are residents of Kilometer 11, Sasa, Davao City.

The suspected smugglers will be facing charges in violation of RA No. 4712, An Act amending Certain sections of the Tariff and Customs Code of The Philippines.

TF Davao Commander Col. Darren E Comia commended the troops for scoring big in the wee hours of the last day of the month of October.

Comia said this apprehension reflects the relentless efforts of the security clusters of Davao City to prevent any form of illegal contrabands that is harmful to the economy of the City.

Comia reiterated that all border control points around the boundaries of Davao City are unceasingly intensifying their tasks in conformity with the mandate of the Local Government.

The suspects and seized items are temporarily placed under the custody of Eden Police Station for proper disposition.
