165 residents of Santo Tomas get aid from DSWD's Cash-For-Work Program
DAVAO CITY —The Municipal Government of Santo Tomas in Davao del Norte along with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) released P642, 857.14 for the work and services rendered by 165 beneficiaries under the cash-for-work program.

In a statement Santo Tomas Mayor Ernesto Evangelista said the benefit will help the family of each beneficiaries of the program. 

Each beneficiary received P3, 960 as part of the implementation of DSWD’s Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS). 

“Padayon atong paningkamot na daghan pa kita matabangan pinaagi sa pag-access sa nagkalahi-lahing programa sa atong gobyerno (We will continue to strive in helping many people in the town through the access of different programs of the government) ,” Evangelista said. 

The 165 beneficiaries were residents of Barangays Balagunan, New Visayas, New Katipunan, Salvacion and San Miguel.

Evangelista said the cash-for-work program provides a temporary employment opportunity for Tomasinos to earn an income and bounce back from the impact of the pandemic. 

The payout took place at the Municipal Covered Court on November 26, attended by Municipal Administrator lawyer Elisa Evangelista-Lapiña, Barangay Tibal-og village chief Ricky Inodioan, DSWD Kalahi-CIDSS Area Coordinator Rizza M. Oteco, Meljoy Maglasang, Mary Rose Manacap and a representative of SAGIP Partylist Representative Rodante Marcoleta.

Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office head Leilanie Rafol said the beneficiaries were required to work for 10 days to clean roads and desilting canals in their respective barangays.

Rafol said that all 165 beneficiaries were paid based on a minimum wage of P396 a day.

She added that 35 persons rendered work for 10 days while one person rendered only services for five days.

For her part, Evangelista-Lapiña said the present administration would pour more projects in 19 barangays to ensure that the development programs and projects of the municipal government would be implemented in various communities. (Armando Fenequito)
