Major Francisco Garello Jr., the spokesman of 4th ID identified the fatality as Rolando Rubilla “Edroy” Leyson Jr, 40 years old.
Leyson, according to Garello was the secretary of NPA’s Guerilla Front 16 of the North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee (NEMRC), operating in the provinces of Agusan del Norte and Surigao del Norte in Caraga region
Leyson was found dead in the mountainous area in said barangay while troops of the 29th Infantry Battalion under the 901st Infantry Brigade were conducting no let-up combat operations.
Leyson’s death was the result of the previous encounter of 29IB against the Sub Regional Committee (SRC) Northland on September 14.
Leyson had multiple warrants of arrest and over 25 criminal cases pending in court including arson, attempted murder, murder, multiple attempted murders, kidnapping, and serious illegal detention.
Leyson was a notorious NPA leader in the Caraga Region, and his death could be the last straw that keeps its members and will eventually collapse, the military said.
Brigadier General George Banzon, commander of 901st Brigade, meanwhile, urged Leyson’s wife, Juanita Pableo "Kikay" Saavedra also a key leader of the communist group to surrender to have peace of mind and pay her last respect and properly bury her slain husband.
