Quitain assures work continuity of legislators as elex season nears

Davao City Vice Mayor Melchor Quitain Jr. assured Davaoeños of a continued work of the members of the 20th Davao City Council even with the filing of certificate of candidacy starting next month.

Quitain during Aprubado sa Konseho media forum on Tuesday (Sept. 17) said regular sessions will continue.

“I don’t think maka affect na kay the session will still be on Tuesday,” he said.

Quitain also assures that he will do a monitoring of the city councilors’s output of their respectives offices.

“In fact I have instructed the Secretary to send out memos reminding them that they have this much pending item in their committees and to dispose of them immediately,” Quitain said.

“Whether they toss the item or come up with the recommendation already. So we will continue to monitor,” Quitain said.

Quitain further said “I think that’s my job to continuously monitor and remind them that despite election fever we do not forget our work in the city council.”

The filing period of certificate of candidacy (COC) for those running in the May 2025 midterm elections is set on October 1 to 8, 2024.

The elections, covering national, local, and parliamentary positions, are set to take place on May 12, 2025.

Meanwhile, the 20th City Council under Quitain’s leadership has recorded 18 landmark ordinances including the Creation of the Persons with Disabilities Office (PDAO) of Davao City; Davao City Anti Bullying Ordinance; Pre-emptive and Forced Evacuation System In Case of Disasters Ordinance; Amended Speed Limit Ordinance; Creation of Davao City Housing Office; Paperless Session Ordinance; Creation of Davao City Youth Development Division-Local Youth Development Office; and Institutionalizing the Davao City Earthquake Response Task Force.

The city council also approved ordinances amending CCTV Ordinance; Creation of Davao City Office for Culture and the Arts; Anti-Spaghetti Wire Ordinance of Davao City; Solo Parent Ordinance; Establishing Shelter for the IP Watchers and Runners of Patients; Amended New Comprehensive Anti-Smoking Ordinance of Davao City; Ordinance Declaring Mt. Apo Natural Park as a Geopark; Dabawenyo DCplinado Curriculum; Water-Break Time Ordinance; and Davao City Liberation Day.
