NPA couple surrender to Army’s 88th IB in Bukidnon
DAVAO CITY- A young couple, former combatants of the communist New People’s Army surrendered to the Army’s 88th Infantry Battalion in Bukidnon on September 10.

They were identified through their aliases as ASO/JM/SAM, 24, Squad Leader, and his party wife ESYAN/ELLA, 24, Squad Medic, of the Sentro De Grabidad (SDG) of the NPA’s Platoon codenamed “PEDDLER/HAMMER”.

The couple is  operating in the area of Cabanglasan, Bukidnon under Sub-Regional Committee 2 (SRC-2), North Central Mindanao Regional Party Committee (NCMRC).

The surrender happened due to the continued campaign against the said terrorist group in the mountainous areas of Pantaron Mountain Ranges, covering Malaybalay City, San Fernando, and Cabanglasan Bukidnon.

They told the military that fatigue, hunger, lack of sleep, sickness, and their great desire to be with their families and loved ones were the reasons they decided to come down and surrender.

The surrenderers also revealed that most of them would want to surrender because the military campaign for the past years has been successful and with the passage of EO-70, NTF- ELCAC, they lost most of their mass base.

The couple is currently undergoing debriefing and documentation that will allow authorities to facilitate the granting of their benefits under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program.

Lieutenant Colonel Christian James Vingno, Commanding Officer of 88th IB, said he is confident that before the year ends  they will be able to finish the CPP-NPA totally.

Vingno encourages the remaining NPA rebels to surrender and return to the folds of the law and avail of the government’s programs.
