Ten PDL youngsters will receive financial aid for their education as part of the event's revenues. According to PSupt Ericley Louise D. Lazaro, the jail warden of the Davao City jail's male dormitory, 10 PDL children will get some financial assistance for their education.
Lazaro, a native of Isabela City in the province of Cagayan, disclosed in a previous interview that the PDLS who created the exquisite woodwork prizes for the chessfest, will also receive payment for their work.
The chess was officiated by veteran Davaoeno arbiters Ely Acas, Jojo Palero and Alfred Moulic.
Lazaro expressed happiness and pride at the outcome of his second chess tournament, which attracted more competitors and featured some of Mindanao's best players, including Davaoeno Oliver Dimakiling, who won the open division, and a chess coach located in Dubai. Henry Lopez, a frequent player for the Philippines' para chess team and resident of Panabo City, attended the event as well.
The occasion was also attended by Aglipay 8 Oberio of the Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos), the chess instructor who assisted IGACOS in winning four gold medals in the most recent Davaraa 2024.
Due to the chessfest's success, Lazaro stated in an earlier post that the third edition will take place in August, in time for Kadayawan.(Romeo Braceros Jr.)
