During her guesting at the Kapehan sa Dabaw at SM City Davao today (August 1), Northern Davao Electric Cooperative (NORDECO) OIC-General Manager Elvera Alngog said the submarine cable has been completed in Italy and will be transported to Davao.
“Ang travel time man gud niya is three months, na fabricate na siya (Its travel time is three months, it has already been fabricated),” Alngog said of the time frame for the arrival, inspection and installation of the submarine cable.
The cable will have to be accepted from the manufacturers then shipped to Davao, the contractors has promised 15 days for the installation of the cable once it is already in the island.
The 14.7-kilometer submarine cable will connect the grid at Pantukan in Davao de Oro towards Aundanao in Samal Island. The project cost is P1.1 billion. The cable is capable of transferring 35 to 50 megawatts to the island.
“So far karon ang 6 megawatt ang power demand nato diha pero among ginapangandaman kay daghan investors, daghan mga resort diha (So far power demand is around 6 megawatt but we are preparing since there are many investors, many resorts there),” Alngog said.
The island is relying mostly on costly power generators when the submarine cable connecting the mainland to Samal was cut when hit by a ship’s anchor in 2017. (PIA/RG Alama)
