Ex-NPA rebel supporters undergo livelihood training
DAVAO CITY – Former supporters of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) in Makilala, North Cotabato underwent a livelihood capacity building seminar at the 39th Infantry Battalion headquarters in Poblacion, Makilala, North Cotabato on Saturday (Sept. 30).

The training was composed of 180 participants who were organized into 10 Peoples Organizations and went through a training on leadership, financial management, coupled with team building and inter-personal skills development. 

The activity was facilitated by the Department of Social and Welfare Development XII, Municipal Social and Welfare Development – Makilala, Department of Trade and Industry and Local Government Unit of Makilala, and 39th IB.

The program is part of the continuous social preparation and development being undertaken to former rebels and supporters as embodied in the Task Force Balik-Loob Program and National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC). 

The 10 Peoples Organizations are programmed to benefit from the Sustainable Livelihood Program of DSWD. Each cooperative will receive P300,000.00 to augment their respective organizations.

Lieutenant Colonel Ezra L. Balagtey, commander of 39th IB expressed appreciation to the agencies involved and encouraged them together with the recipient to continue to build peace in these communities. 

Balagtey thanked the DSWD, DTI and Makilala government for continuously reaching out and bringing hope to Filipino people who once lost from the mainstream.

“Let us continue to converge our efforts and initiatives to build peace by addressing the issues that cause conflict,” Balagtey said.
