According to the complaint, the man allegedly asked the woman intrusive personal questions, introduced himself and proposed that he become her boyfriend, repeatedly asked for her contact number, and touched her arm.
The woman reportedly pushed his hand away. When she reached her destination, she immediately got off the vehicle and ran inside her residence.
She later reported the incident to the police, saying she felt scared, uncomfortable, and distressed. Police personnel acted on the report and provided assistance to the complainant.
The DCPO stressed that unwanted remarks, persistent advances, intrusive questions and unwanted physical contact should not be dismissed as jokes, compliments or attempts to make friends.
Under the Safe Spaces Act, gender-based sexual harassment in public spaces, including public transportation, is prohibited and may carry corresponding legal penalties.
The DCPO urged the public to respect personal boundaries and personal space, reminding everyone that when a person says no, moves away, refuses an advance or shows discomfort, the appropriate response is to stop.
DCPO Chief Colonel Peter Madria encouraged victims or witnesses of gender-based sexual harassment to report incidents to the nearest police station, Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD), barangay authorities or other appropriate government agencies.
Madria assured the public that complaints will be handled with sensitivity, professionalism and confidentiality in accordance with existing laws and procedures.
