DAVAO CITY- A neophyte policeman reportedly died in an accidental fire incident while he was cleaning his service gun at his home in Zapanta Subd., Barangay Mabuhay, Bansalan, Davao del Sur at around 12:55 a.m Jan. 1.
Police Regional Office (PRO) 11 identified the deceased cop as Patrolman Jhaniel Salip Pepito, 27 years old, a resident of said place.
The victim, who is 5 years in the service, is assigned to Davao del Sur Police Mobile Force Company (DSPMFC).
Investigation disclosed that Pepito was allegedly cleaning his Canik 9mm gun inside his room when suddenly a bullet went off and pierced through his face.
The victim was found by his family sitting on the floor and leaning on his bedroom wall bathed with his own blood.
Pepito was brought to the nearest hospital for medical treatment, however, he was declared dead on arrival by the attending duty physician.
