The motorcycles will be beneficial to the 120 peace builders in the 13 barangays of Paquibato District. This will help them perform their duties in achieving inclusive and sustainable peace and development in the city.
Captain Mark Anthony Tito, the spokesman of Philippine Army’s 10th Infantry Division said the donation will be of great help to the peace builders to strengthen its defense system against the communitst terrorist group (CTG).
Peace 911 Focal Person lawyer Jonah Margarette F. Presto also said the motorcycles will be used to complement their efforts in keeping peace in the Paquibato area.
20th ID commander Maj. Gen. Nolasco A. Mempin, on the other hand, lauded the Local Government Unit and his personnel for leading the way in sustaining peace in the city.
“We are fortunate to have superb sustainment efforts in our counterinsurgency campaign in Davao City led by the City Government of Davao. Together, let us ensure that the CTG can no longer re-infiltrate not just Davao City but the whole Davao Region,” Mempin said.
According to Tito, the peace builders were organized, trained, and mobilized as peace advocates.
They are tasked to safeguard the cleared areas from re-entry and resurgence of the CTG, to support community peace and order, and to promote government peace programs and initiatives.
Paquibato District, which is located in a far-flung area in Davao City, used to be a hotbed for communist insurgency.
The area had been the focus of the city government’s peace and development program after the launch of the Davao City Peace 911 in May 2018, an initiative to bring better "social services, infrastructure, livelihood" and other forms of interventions.
