The Davao City Government has been awarded the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS) after it passed the accreditation by the inspection and certification services group SOCOTEC.

ISO 9001:2015 is a global standard set by the International Organization for Standardization that specifies the requirements for a strong QMS; outlining the processes, procedures, and programs that organizations must develop, implement, maintain, and improve in order to successfully manage production or service delivery.

The accreditaion is effective for three years and applies to all city government departments and satellite offices.

The City Information Office (CIO) in its report said that since adapting the standard last year, the local government successfully met the specifications required by the ISO 9001:2015, to include the streamlining of operations through digitalization and organization reengineering, simplification of service delivery, human resource trainings, practice of public health standards, among others.

Mayor Sebastian Duterte, in his speech during the awarding ceremony on Friday (October 7), assured Davaoeños that the pursuit of excellence will not stop and the city government “will continue to press forward in its vision to become a center of excellence in governance driven by an empowered citizenry.”

Meanwhile, Vice President Sara Duterte in her message read by Former city administrator lawyer Zuleika Lopez, congratulates all public officials involved in the implementation of the ISO QMS standard, adding that the awarding of the standard is “proof of the constant efforts to ensure that the programs and services are at par with the global management standards.

QMS Committee Leader Atty. Sarah Phoebe Paclibar also said that with the adaptation of the ISO QMS standard, the functions and operations of the City Government of Davao will institutionalize the Ease of Doing Business mandate and ensure “better delivery of services and products to the Dabawenyos.”

“We will continue the conduct of capacity-building of the representatives of the Quality Management System of the City Government of Davao, and, with the assistance of our technical advisors, we will be able to improve those aspects wherein we are weak,” she said.

Vice Mayor J. Melchor Quitain Jr. Quitain, on the other hand said the accreditation is “evidence that we are effectively, and with utmost dedication, able to fulfill the mandate of our respective offices.”

He said that ISO certification will “raise the bar” of public service in the city even higher.
