Davao City, Sennan City in Osaka,Japan propose sister city agreement
April Marie Dayap, the officer in charge of the Davao City Investment Promotion Center (DCIPC) said the city’s International Relations Board is set to approve Sennan City in Osaka, Japan as Davao's newest sister city.

Dayap said she told representatives from Sennan City Hall Officials during their recent video conference that forging the sister city relations is instrumental in the economic collaboration of both cities.

The areas for possible collaboration between the two cities include  education, tourism and economy.

Dayap said the city is looking forward to ‘people to people' exchange through education, where a student exchange program is likely possible, as well as information exchange between organizations like cooperatives, tourism associations and chambers of commerce.

Sennan Chamber of Commerce officer Itou Masaki said during their conference that a strong economic collaboration is one of the future directions of the sister-city agreement between Sennan and Davao City.

He said they are promoting Davao in their area as one step for possible business tie-ups.

“We also have other education-related activities which can be done online for junior high school students, possible partnerships with national universities situated in Sennan for student exchange programs as well as joint economic activities with the Sennan Chamber of Commerce,” Masaki said in a report from the City Information Office (CIO).

The report said that the proposal of Sennan for a sisterhood agreement with Davao City started early 2019, however, it was deferred due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Currently, the approving body, which is the Davao City International Relations Board, is awaiting additional information and documents from Sennan to finalize the approval process.

Davao City has existing sister city agreements with eight foreign cities such as Nanning and Jinjiang in China, Kitakyushu in Japan, Tacoma in Washington USA, Kaua'i in Hawaii, Manado and Bitung in Indonesia, and Koror in Palau.
