In its report, 10th ID spokesman Captain Mark Anthony Tito said the recovery took place after former Commanding Officer of Regional Headquarters of the Southern Mindanao Regional Committee (RHQ, SMRC) of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG), Dayang Mansumuy-at revealed to them the location of an arms cache.
The firearms include three Bushmaster M16 rifles, Colt M16A1 rifle, and an AK47 CZ858 Tactical rifle.
Also recovered by the soldiers were an anti-personnel mine and three upper receivers of an M16 rifle, M60 Machine Gun, and M14 rifle.
Brigadier General Consolito P Yecla, commander of 1003rd IB said the successful retrieval was made possible because of the unit's effective handling of Mansumuy-at who surrendered to them on October 17.
Yecla said the firearms were owned and cached by the members of the RHQ, SMRC sometime from 2018 to 2020 before the said NPA unit moved to Davao De Oro.
10th ID commander Major General Nolasco A Mempin, for his part, lauded the 1003rd Infantry Brigade for their effective sustainment operations that led to the recovery of the war materials.
"The trust and confidence we gained from our former rebels, now friends rescued, resulted in this significant accomplishment, Mempin said.
He assured that the command will continue to sustain their gains, adding it will not allow any inch of its area of responsibility here in Region 11 to be recovered by the communist.
From January 1, 2022 up to present, 10th ID recovered a total of 298 various firearms.
