10th ID soldiers initiates tree planting within its camp
DAVAO CITY - The Philippine Army’s 10th Infantry Division initiated a tree planting activity inside its camp at Mawab, Davao de Oro on Friday (Sept. 9).

The activity which was participated by officers, enlisted personnel, civilian human resource, and other stakeholders is part of the Army’s commitment to environmental protection.

A total of 450 non-fruit bearing trees such as narra, molave, and mahogany were planted during the activity to four planting sites within the camp.

10ID Commander Major General Nolasco A Mempin led the activity together with the representatives of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources - Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR-PENRO) of Davao De Oro. 

Mempin in his message, emphasized the importance of being a responsible steward of the environment. 

“Dapat nating tandaan na ang pangangalaga sa ating kapaligiran ay ating responsibilidad, at sa pagtupad ng ating misyon, manatili tayong aktibo na makibahagi sa bawat gawaing pang kapaligiran,” he said.

Aside from this activity, the participants also trekked the five kilometer stretch perimeter of Camp General Manuel T Yan Senior with approximately 100 hectares of total land area. 

All these activities of the 10th ID aim to raise societal awareness on the importance of planting and saving trees, and to express their concern for the environment in mitigating the negative effects of climate change.
