Alijah Rae Lumangtad of Tagum City won the championship in the girl's division after scoring 7.5 points.
In the boy's division, National Master Christian Gian Karlo Arca of Panabo City got third place after scoring seven points.
With their wins, both Lumangtad and Arca, 12 will advance to the grand finals on December 28-30, 2021.
Lumangtad and Arca are considered as two of the top young chess players not only in Davao del Norte but in the entire region 11.
Recently, Lumangtad and Arca were declared as overall champions in the Davao del Norte chess online tournament.
In the 15 and under boys category, Arca was declared overall champion after scoring 81 points.
In the girls 15 and under division, Lumangtad of Tagum City won the overall championship by scoring 85 points.
All the winners won cash prizes and certificates.
The chess tournament was earlier organized by the Davao del Norte provincial sports to promote the sport of chess in the province.
Under the administration of Davao del Norte governor Edwin Jubahib, various sports activities have been conducted to propagate physical fitness and advance sports at the grassroots level. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
