DAVAO CITY--One reason why the College of St. Benilde Blazers is playing well in the ongoing NCAA Season 98 Men’s Basketball Tournament is due to Davaoeo point-guard Miguel Oczon.

Oczon, a transferee from the National University basketball team in the UAAP men’s college basketball division, is playing extremely well this year.

In the 100-94 win of the Blazers over San Sebastian in February at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan, Oczon scored 25 points for his team.

Blazers assistant coach Paolo Layug is happy with the strong play of Oczon, who he considers the hardest working player on the team.

He is the hardest working player in our team. He really works out every day; he gets hundreds of shots every day; and what he did today, he just trusted the work. He puts in the work, earns his minutes, makes shots, and that’s why we got him here,” Layug said.

Before playing in Metro Manila, the six-foot Davaoeno was a former Davao Christian High School basketball team player.

Before his departure from the Bulldogs, Oczon averaged 19 minutes a game in his rookie season with numbers of 4.14 points and 2.14 rebounds per game.

In the 2019 Kadayawan Invitational Basketball League here, Oczon also helped the Bulldogs win the crown over the De La Salle University Green Archers, 77-70.

Oczon played solid for the Bulldogs in the game as he scored 14 points in their championship win. (Romeo Braceros, Jr.)
