DAVAO CITY---An unheralded player from New Bataan, Davao de Oro, helped the Letran Knights win back-to-back championships in the NCAA College Basketball.

On Monday, Jeo Ambohot, drafted third overall in the PBA Rookie Draft on May 15, scored 13 points to help the Knights beat the Mapua Cardinals in game 2 of their best of three NCAA finals.

The win allowed the Knights to defend their crown successfully as they swept the Cardinals in their championship match-up 2-0 as the earlier team beat the Mapua in game 1.

With his massive performance in the finals, Ambohot, a lanky center/forward of the team, was awarded as the finals most valuable player.

The award is the second NCAA award for Ambohot as he was also part of the Mythical team or the best five college players in the NCAA this year.

"Sobrang saya talaga kasi pag-exit ko ng Letran, may napatunayan din ako," Ambohot who exits Muralla with two rings to boot said.

"Para din sa Letran, sa pamilya namin at mahal namin sa buhay. Binigay ko lang yung best ko," Ambohot added.

Aside from his NCAA accolades, Ambohot is also part of the  23 players eyed for the Gilas Pilipinas training pool for the 2023 Fiba World Cup in the Philippines.

Former national team coach Chot Reyes picked Ambohot because he is a versatile big man who can shoot from the outside and play perimeter defense because of his size. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
