Pinoy chesser wins  rapid game in Asian Juniors Chess Championship 2022
DAVAO CITY---Michael "Jako" Concio Jr., a Filipino International Master (IM), won the Asian Juniors Chess Championship 2022 - Rapid, held on Friday (Nov. 18) at the Knights Templar Ridge Hotel in Tagaytay City.

Concio, 17 years old and a Grade 12 student at Dasmarinas Integrated High School, won the seven-round competition using a time limit of 10 minutes with a 10-second increment by scoring 6.5 points on six victories and one draw.

Concio defeated Arena Fide Master Michael Michio Dela Cruz of the Philippines in the first round. 

In the second round, Concio defeated Noah Combs of Guam. In the third round, Concio defeated Fide Master Eldiar Orozbaev of Kyrgyzstan.

In the fifth round, Concio defeated Ramadhan Dziththauly of Indonesia. In the sixth round, Concio defeated Fide Master Arman Hakemi of Iran.

In the fourth round, he and Indian Chatterjee Utsab split the points.

The victory is a blessing, according to Concio, whose stay in the area has the support of Mayor Jenny Barzaga, National Coach Fide Master Roel Abelgas, and Papadu Sportswear.

The eight-day tournament was officially opened earlier by Girls' top seed Woman International Master Assel Serikbay of Kazakhstan and Cavite Vice Governor and National Chess Federation of the Philippines Vice President Athena Bryana D. Tolentino. Tagaytay City Mayor and Philippine Olympic Committee President Abraham "Bambol" Tolentino, Asian Chess Federation Executive Board member Mehrdad Pahlevanzadeh, and Appeals Committee members were also present.

The Asian Chess Federation (ACF), the Philippine Sports Commission, and the City of Tagaytay are the tournament's sponsors for the nine-round Swiss system.(Romeo Braceros Jr.)
