DAVAO CITY---The lone Filipino chosen in the Women's Asian Quota draft was MJ Phillips of the Petro Gazz Angels, who was chosen by the Gwangju Al Peppers in the 2023 Korean Volleyball Federation (KOVO) draft.

Following the draft on Friday afternoon (April 21), in an online ceremony, the two-time top middle blocker in the Premier Volleyball League will take her abilities to the foreign league as an Asian import.

The fifth overall choice in the seven-woman draft was the Filipino-American.

“You'll see a lot of grit, a lot of passion, and a lot of hard-hitting balls,” Phillips said.

Jia De Guzman of Creamline, Dindin Santiago-Manabat of Akari, Mylene Paat of Chery Tiggo, and Majoy Baron and Iris Tolenada of F2 Logistics were not selected.

In March, Phillips led the Angels to their second consecutive trip in the finals when the Creamline Cool Smashers defeated them in the All-Filipino Conference's championship title match.(Romeo Braceros Jr.)
