Panaboan NM,12 wins PACE year-end chess tourney
DAVAO CITY---Twelve-year-old National Master Gian Karlo Arca from Panabo City, Davao del Norte won the Philippine Academy for Chess Excellence last December 26.

Arca won the tournament with seven points against other PACE members.

The young Panaboan NM won 3000 cash as a prize.

Last December 23, Arca also won special awards in the Pamaskong Handog Chess Tournament.

He won the top junior category (13 to 15 years old).

Arca won P500 as a prize. On December 21, Arca also placed second in the 1st Panabo Knights Chess Club Paskohan Open Chess Tournament.

Arca scored 5.5 points to place as runner-up in the tournament featuring some of the top chess players in Mindanao.

Arca won a trophy and P2,000 cash as prizes.

The young chesser also won an additional P300 for winning the 13 and under category in the same chess tournament.

Earlier, Arca swept all his 10 simultaneous online exhibition matches against fellow young chessers across the Philippines on December 12.

Arca won all his matches against 10 young woodpushers in the mini-tournament organized by  Brainy Chess Academy Philippines. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
