Panaboan National Masters get special awards in Pamaskong Handog chessfest
DAVAO CITY---Two National Masters from Panabo City, Davao del Norte won special awards in the Pamaskong Handog Chess Tournament last December 23.

NM Henry Lopez won the Person With Disability Award award in the tournament participated in by some of the top chess players in the Philippines.

Aside from Lopez, NM Christian Gian Karlo Arca, 12 won the top junior category (13 to 15 years old).

Both Lopez and Arca won P500 as prizes.

On December 21, Arca also placed second in the 1st Panabo Knights Chess Club Paskohan Open Chess Tournament.

Arca scored 5.5 points to place as runner-up in the tournament featuring some of the top chess players in Mindanao.

Arca won a trophy and P2,000 cash as prizes.

The young chesser also won an additional P300 for winning the 13 and under category in the same chess tournament.

Earlier, Arca swept all his 10 simultaneous online exhibition matches against fellow young chessers across the Philippines on December 12.

Arca won all his matches against 10 young woodpushers in the mini-tournament organized by  Brainy Chess Academy Philippines. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
