Panabo teen wins two medals in 2023 Asian U18 Mixed Doubles Chess Championship
DAVAO CITY—A 14-year-old chess star from Panabo City, Davao del Norte, once again showed that his God-given chess skills are world-class.

National Master Christian Gian Karlo Tade-Arca won two medals in the tough 2023 Asian U18 Mixed Doubles Chess Championship from April 28–30.

Arca won a gold medal in board 1 of the competition after achieving an impressive eight wins and one defeat in the tournament, which was participated  by some of the top young chess players in Asia.

The former football player also helped the Philippines get a bronze medal in the tournament with his partner, NM Franchesca Largo.

On March 18, Arca also won seventh place in the 2023 Balinas Open Rapid Chess Tournament, held at the Open Kitchen Foodhall on the second floor of the Rockwell Business Complex on Sheridan Street in Mandaluyong City.

Arca scored six points in the tournament, attended by 254 chess players, including two grandmasters, one WGM, nine international masters, and many master-caliber players. 

On March 5, after intense seven-round matches at the Vice Governor Athena Tolentino National Age Group Chess Championships in Tagaytay City, Arca won the premier open under-18 division.

Arca scored six points to rule the division and get bragging rights as the best 18-and-under chess player in the Philippines today.

On February 25, Arca also won sixth place in the tough Kamayas Invitational FIDE Rapid Chess Tournament at SM Sucat, Paranaque.

Arca finished sixth among the 150 competitors, consisting of some of the top chess players in the country. The teen chess wizard won P2,000 in cash and a medal. (Romeo Braceros Jr.).
