DAVAO CITY---By defeating Masataka Taniguchi through a technical knockout in the second round this Friday night at the EDION Arena in Osaka, Japan, Melvin Jerusalem has ended the Philippines' boxing world title drought.
In round two, the 28-year-old from Jerusalem just needed to hit a flawless right straight to knock the hometown favorite. Taniguchi attempted to stand up, but when he rose on unsteady legs, he fell back down.
The fight was stopped at the 1:04 mark of the second round after the referee decided enough was enough after he made two trips to the ground in one knockdown.
Jerusalem's professional record now stands at 20-2, with 12 knockouts after the victory.(Romeo Braceros Jr.)
