DAVAO CITY –2016 Rio, Brazil Olympics campaigner and now professional boxer Charly Suarez successfully retained his World Boxing Association Asia super-featherweight crown after a unanimous decision win over Filipino boxer Mark John Yap at the Elorde Sports Complex in Sucat, Paranaque on August 7.
In a Facebook post, Suarez is happy and grateful to retain his Asian boxing title.
"Una sa Lahat I Praise and thank the Lord who is in Heaven! For the Victory and Protection na binigay niya sakin at sa Kalaban kong si Mark John Yap natapos ang laban na Walang napahamak samin, maraming Salamat Tol," Suarez said.
On March 12, Suarez won the Asian boxing crown after knocking out in the 12th round Manolo Fortich Bukidnon boxer Tomjune Mangubat in the same venue.
Suarez, a native of San Isidro, Davao del Norte remains undefeated after 11 bouts after his win over Yap.
Before turning professional in 2020, Suarez won a gold medal for the Philippines in the 2019 SEA Games in the lightweight boxing division. (Romeo Braceros Jr.)
